K2( Chhogori) Known as the second-highest mountain of the world. It is located on the border between Gilgit–Skardu Baltistan region of northern Pakistan, and the Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Xinjiang, China. Being the 2nd highest peaks of the world it has always known as challangious peaks for climbers.
K-2 is the most marvelous, superb but the most difficult peak in the world .Due to this reason it is well known as “CHOGORI” in local Balti “language, which means “The king of Mountain “. It has variously been called as the “awesome “. Savage “And the mountain of mountains “Its lower face is rocky up to 6,000 meters, above which it becomes a vertical ocean of snow.
K- 2 was successful ascent in 1954 for the first time in the history by, 11 climbers, which include six scientists also. One of the climbers died of pneumonia after40 days of raging storms. The final ascent was made by a team of two after their oxygen supply had run out, and an emergency descent was made in darkness.
It stands over 3,000 meters (9,840 ft) above much of the glacial valley bottoms at its base. It is a consistently steep pyramid, dropping quickly in almost all directions. The north side is the steepest: there it rises over 3,200 meters (10,500 ft) above the K2 (Qogir) Glacier in only 3,000 meters (9,800 ft)of horizontal life.
